I\u2019ve sometimes been disappointed with these when knitted up, but they aren\u2019t going to weave on the loom. The lumps won\u2019t go through the reed if they\u2019re wound as a warp, and the effect won\u2019t be what I want if I use them as weft, and I only have 25 metres!<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #333399;\"><em><a href=\"http:\/\/spindizzy.net\/weaving-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/artyarn2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-82\" title=\"artyarn2\" src=\"http:\/\/spindizzy.net\/weaving-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/artyarn2-224x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"224\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/spindizzy.net\/weaving-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/artyarn2-224x300.jpg 224w, https:\/\/spindizzy.net\/weaving-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/artyarn2.jpg 500w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 224px) 100vw, 224px\" \/><\/a><\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #333399;\"><em>Here\u2019s one solution (the technique is still under development). I mounted a couple of bars top and bottom of my warping mill about\u00a0 6ft. apart, and wound on a single skein.\u00a0 To give some stability to the finished scarf, I filled in between the fancy yarn with some toning plain handspun merino.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #333399;\"><em><a href=\"http:\/\/spindizzy.net\/weaving-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/artyarn3.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-83\" title=\"artyarn3\" src=\"http:\/\/spindizzy.net\/weaving-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/artyarn3-263x300.jpg\" alt=\"Warp close up\" width=\"263\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/spindizzy.net\/weaving-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/artyarn3-263x300.jpg 263w, https:\/\/spindizzy.net\/weaving-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/artyarn3.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 263px) 100vw, 263px\" \/><\/a>I\u2019m looking for an open weave, which shows off the yarn but has enough stability to hold together,\u00a0 so every few inches, I twined a few rows in the toning plain yarn.\u00a0 Doing this by hand means that I can work round the coils.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #333399;\"><em><a href=\"http:\/\/spindizzy.net\/weaving-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/artyarn5.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-80\" title=\"artyarn5\" src=\"http:\/\/spindizzy.net\/weaving-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/artyarn5-157x300.jpg\" alt=\"Washed and trimmed\" width=\"157\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/spindizzy.net\/weaving-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/artyarn5-157x300.jpg 157w, https:\/\/spindizzy.net\/weaving-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/artyarn5.jpg 500w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 157px) 100vw, 157px\" \/><\/a>When the whole length has been stabilised with areas of twined weft, the scarf comes off the loom.
