{"id":32,"date":"2011-08-31T16:39:11","date_gmt":"2011-08-31T16:39:11","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/spindizzy.net\/weaving-blog\/?p=32"},"modified":"2011-09-19T13:45:48","modified_gmt":"2011-09-19T13:45:48","slug":"summer-school-sampler","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/spindizzy.net\/weaving-blog\/archives\/32","title":{"rendered":"Summer School Sampler"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #003300;\"><strong><em>Finally (I hope) here&#8217;s something about the weaving that I&#8217;ve been doing with the remains of the warp from the Summer School. <\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #003300;\"><strong><em>Here&#8217;s one of the more interesting weave structures\u00a0 from the echo twill threading.<\/em><\/strong><\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #003300;\"> <strong> <em>Towards the end of the week we were exploring &#8220;trompe as writ&#8221;, which is where you pick a twill, and treadling to the same pattern as the twill lifts.<\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #003300;\"><strong><em>For example, using a 3\/2\/1\/2 twill, the 8 lifts are:<\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><span style=\"color: #003300;\"><strong><em>1 2 3 6 <\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #003300;\"><strong><em>2\u00a0 3 4\u00a0 7<\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #003300;\"><strong><em>3 4 5 8<\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #003300;\"><strong><em>2 5 6 7 <\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #003300;\"><strong><em>3 6 7 8<\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #003300;\"><strong><em>1 4 7 8<\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #003300;\"><strong><em>1 2 5 8<\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><span style=\"color: #003300;\"><strong><em>So &#8220;trompe as writ&#8221; for a straight twill threading\u00a0 &#8211; 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 1 2 3\u00a0 4 5 6 7 8. would mean to make the lifts as above (1-&gt;8 repeated). But we had some network twill, and moving twills eg threadings 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 7 6 5 4 3 4 5 6 7 8 6 5 4 3 2 1 2 3 4 3 2 1\u00a0 (M&#8217;s and W&#8217;s) so we did the lifts in that order, to make quite complicated patterns from very simple threadings.<\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_33\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><span style=\"color: #003300;\"><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/spindizzy.net\/weaving-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/08\/random_echo.jpeg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-33\" class=\"size-full wp-image-33\" title=\"random_echo\" src=\"http:\/\/spindizzy.net\/weaving-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/08\/random_echo.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"220\" \/><\/a><\/strong><\/span><p id=\"caption-attachment-33\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Random treadling on echo twill threading<\/p><\/div>\n<p><span style=\"color: #003300;\"><strong><em>With the left over few feet of sampler, I devised another lift pattern, random lifts. I wove a few picks (2, 3 or 4) following the 3\/2\/1\/2 lift pattern, then tossed a coin. If it came down heads I continued in the direction that the lifts were going ie 1 2 3 followed by 4 5 (6) (7), tails meant a reversal ie 1 2 3 followed by 2 1 (8) (7). This was starting to show some interesting effects especially in the network threading and the echo twill.
